Canadian Dental Care Plan

Quality dental care, made affordable

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) helps eligible Canadians without private dental insurance get the care they need. We welcome CDCP patients and bill Sun Life directly, so going to the dentist is simpler and more affordable.

Who it is for

Are you eligible?

You can apply for the CDCP if all four of these are true for you.

No private dental insurance

You do not have access to dental coverage through an employer, a plan you bought, or a family member.

Family income under $90,000

Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000 a year.

You filed your taxes

You, and your spouse or partner if you have one, filed last year's tax return.

A Canadian resident

You are a resident of Canada for tax purposes.

Not sure if you qualify? We are happy to help you figure it out, or you can check and apply at canada.ca.

What it costs you

What you'll pay

How much the CDCP covers depends on your adjusted family net income. Slide to your income to see your co-pay.

$65,000
$30,000$90,000+
0%

At this income, the CDCP pays its share and you pay no co-pay on covered care.

Lower income
Under $70,000
adjusted family net income
0%
your co-pay

The CDCP pays its share, so you pay no co-pay on covered care.

Middle income
$70,000 to $79,999
adjusted family net income
40%
your co-pay

You pay 40% of the CDCP fees, and the plan covers the rest.

Higher income
$80,000 to $89,999
adjusted family net income
60%
your co-pay

You pay 60% of the CDCP fees, and the plan covers the rest.

Good to know: the CDCP pays set rates. If a treatment costs more than the plan covers, you may pay the difference, even with no co-pay. We always go over any costs with you first, before anything begins, so there are no surprises.

What it covers

What the CDCP helps pay for

Check-ups & x-rays

Routine and emergency exams, and the x-rays that go with them.

Cleanings & prevention

Cleanings, polishing, fluoride, and sealants to keep your smile healthy.

Fillings

Tooth-coloured fillings to fix cavities and small chips.

Root canals

Care that relieves pain and saves a tooth that is badly decayed.

Gum care

Deeper cleanings and treatment to keep your gums healthy.

Dentures & more

Full and partial dentures, plus crowns and extractions.

Many services are covered right away. A few, like crowns, partial dentures, or care beyond the plan's limits, need pre-approval first, which we arrange with Sun Life for you.

The CDCP is open to all eligible ages. If your family meets the four points above, each member can apply.

  • How do I apply?

Apply online through your My Service Canada Account at canada.ca, or by phone. Once your coverage starts, book with us.

  • Can I use the CDCP with other coverage?
